ClipperDipper by Capaho Web is a clipboard archive utility that maintains a list of text, pictures and raw data in memory that were previously copied to the clipboard from other applications such as web browsers, document or graphics editors, mail readers, etc. A list can also be saved to the ClipperDipper data file so that it can be restored the next time ClipperDipper runs. If Auto Acquire is enabled while ClipperDipper is running it will periodically check the clipboard at a specified interval for new items. The clipboard can also be checked manually at any time by clicking the "Get Item" button. Selected list items can be sent back to the clipboard where they can be pasted into other applications. ClipperDipper behavior can be changed by changing the settings on the front panel controls. Default settings can be changed by clicking the Save Settings button on the front panel or in the Options panel accesible from the Edit Menu. The Options panel includes the same controls as on the front panel plus the color settings for the list items, the ClipperDipper hide window settings and the Clipboard Status control.
The Auto Acquire function determines whether or not ClipperDipper will automatically check the clipboard for new items. If set to "Yes" the clipboard will be checked automatically at the interval specified in the Interval setting. If set to "No" ClipperDipper will not check the clipboard automatically, in which case new items can only be acquired by clicking the "Get Item" button.
The Auto Select function determines whether or not ClipperDipper will automatically send a selected item to the clipboard. If set to "Yes" an item will be sent to the clipboard automatically when it is selected, replacing whatever else was on the clipboard. If set to "No" ClipperDipper will not send selected items to the clipboard automatically, in which case items can only be sent to the clipboard by clicking the "Send Item" button. Windows Users Note: If the selected item is raw file data copied from a folder it cannot be pasted directly from the clipboard after it is sent back by ClipperDipper. In this case, ClipperDipper will handle the paste function. See the "Send Item" button description for a more detailed explanation. Linux Users Note: If the selected item is a file url copied from a folder it cannot be pasted directly from the clipboard as a file after it is sent back by ClipperDipper. In this case, ClipperDipper will handle the paste function. See the "Send Item" button description for a more detailed explanation.
The Clipboard Status indicators on the front panel indicate the current status of the clipboard. A green Picture indicator indicates the presence of a picture on the clipboard. A green Text indicator indicates the presence of text on the clipboard. A green Raw Data indicator indicates the presence of raw application or system data on the clipboard. A green Empty indicator indicates that the clipboard is empty. Linux Users Note: If the current clipboard item is a file url copied from a folder it will be stored as text on the clipboard and the Text indicator will display green. See the "Send Item" button description for a more detailed explanation. If raw application data is copied, it may be stored in memory that is generally not available through the Linux clipboard, in which case the Empty indicator may display green. View Clipboard Button - If the current clipboard item is a picture or text, clicking the "View Clipboard" button will open the Clipboard Viewer and display the picture or text. If the current clipboard item is raw data the Clipboard Viewer will display the data type(s). Clear Clipboard Button - Clicking the "Clear Clipboard" button will delete whatever is currently on the clipboard. View Item Button - Clicking the "View Item" button when a list item is selected will open the Picture Viewer if the selected item is a picture, or the Text Viewer if the selected item is text. If the selected item is raw data the Text Viewer will display the data type(s). The Clipboard Status control is located on the Options panel. If set to "On" The Clipboard Status indicators will indicate the current status of the clipboard. If set to "Off" ClipperDipper will not monitor the data type on the clipboard and all indicators will remain red.
The Delete All button deletes all list items, all saved items and empties the clipboard.
The Delete Item button deletes the selected item from the list and empties the clipboard if the selected item is the last item on the list.

The Hide Control Placement setting sets the default location where the Hide Control Icon will appear on the screen when the ClipperDipper window is hidden: Linux Users Note: Do not disable the Hide Control Icon if the ClipperDipper tray icon is not visible in the system tray. The tray icon requires GTK+ 2.1 or higher. If the tray icon is not visible and the Hide Control Icon is disabled you will not be able to restore a hidden ClipperDipper window, in which case it will be necessary to delete the ClipperDipperData file and restart ClipperDipper in order to restore window control. Show Hide Control Icon - Enables the Hide Control Icon Left Top - Places the Hide Control Icon in the top left corner of the screen Left Center - Places the Hide Control Icon in the left center edge of the screen Left Bottom - Places the Hide Control Icon in the bottom left corner of the screen Center Top - Places the Hide Control Icon in the top center edge of the screen Center - Places the Hide Control Icon in the center of the screen Center Bottom - Places the Hide Control Icon in the bottom center edge of the screen Right Top - Places the Hide Control Icon in the top right corner of the screen Right Center - Places the Hide Control Icon in the right center edge of the screen Right Bottom - Places the Hide Control Icon in the bottom right corner of the screen

Left-clicking on the ClipperDipper icon in task bar (Windows) or the application dock (Mac) will restore the ClipperDipper window to the desktop. If Show Hide Control is enabled in the Options panel the Hide Control Icon will appear on the desktop at the location specified by the Hide Control Placement setting. If set to "No" the ClipperDipper window will open normally when the program first starts.
The Interval setting determines the length of the interval in seconds in which ClipperDipper automatically checks the clipboard for new items if Auto Acquire is on. The interval range in seconds is from 0 seconds (disables Auto Acquire) to 600 seconds (10 minutes). This setting can be changed either by moving the slider control or by typing a new value into the value box.
The Item Format settings determine the file types that will be acquired from the clipboard by ClipperDipper. Text - Text items will be acquired from the clipboard Pictures - Picture items will be acquired from the clipboard Data - Raw data will be acquired from the clipboard Use Base64 encoding for saved text - (Located in the Options panel) If enabled ClipperDipper will encode text in Base64 before saving it to the ClipperDipper data file. Base64 encoding ensures that any formatting information stored with the text is accurately recalled when text data is restored to the list from the ClipperDipper database. If you have saved text from a previous version of ClipperDipper follow the procedure indicated in the Troubleshooting section to recover it after installing ClipperDipper 3.0. The front panel settings can be changed while ClipperDipper is running without affecting the default settings (unless the Save Settings button is clicked). Changes to these settings will take effect on the next interval cycle as determined by the Interval setting.
The Item Limit setting determines the maximum number of items that will be maintained in the list. Once the maximum number of list items is reached, the oldest item will be bumped off the list when a new item is acquired. The item limit range is from 0 (unlimited) to 100.
If the selected list item is a picture the Picture Preview window will display it (or a scaled thumbnail if the picture item is larger than the Picture Preview window). Clicking on the Picture Preview window or the View Item button when a picture preview is visible will open the Picture Viewer.
The Save List Items button will save the current list items to the ClipperDipper data file. Any previously saved list will be overwritten. Any saved list items in the ClipperDipper data file will appear in the Dipper List whenever ClipperDipper starts or whenever "Refresh" is selected from the File Menu.
The Save Settings button saves the currently selected settings as the default settings for ClipperDipper. The default settings can also be changed by selecting Options from the Edit Menu. In addition to the front panel settings, the list colors, the hide window settings and the Clipboard Status setting can also be changed from the Options panel.
The Send Item button sends the selected list item to the clipboard, replacing whatever else was on the clipboard. Windows Users Note: If the selected item is raw file data copied from a folder some of the data was stored in scrap memory and not on the clipboard. This scrap memory is cleared or overwritten by the Windows OS as soon as a new item is copied to the clipboard. Although ClipperDipper will send raw file data captured from the clipboard back to the clipboard, Windows users will not be able to paste the file directly from the clipboard if the scrap memory associated with that data has been cleared or overwritten. If raw file data is sent back to the clipboard by ClipperDipper on a Windows system, ClipperDipper will open a file dialog box and handle the paste process directly. If the selected item is raw application data it may not be useable outside of the application from which it was copied. Linux Users Note: If the selected item is a file url copied from a folder the file url will be stored as text and any raw data that may have been copied is usually not available through the clipboard. Although ClipperDipper will send a file url captured from the clipboard back to the clipboard, Linux users will not be able to paste the file directly from the clipboard. If text that resembles a file url is sent back to the clipboard by ClipperDipper on a Linux system, ClipperDipper will ask the user to confirm whether or not the text is a file url and, if confirmed, will open a file dialog box and handle the paste process directly.
If the selected list item is text the Text / Data Preview window will display the first two-hundred characters. If the selected list item is raw data the Text / Data Preview window will display the data type(s). Clicking on the Text Preview window or the View Item button when a text preview is visible will open the Text Viewer.
The following selections are available from the Window Menu: Hide - Hides the ClipperDipper window and places the Hide Control Icon on the desktop. Show - (Mac OS X Only) Restores the ClipperDipper window to the desktop and closes the Hide Control Icon.
Saved Text is Garbled After Upgrading to ClipperDipper 3.0: 1. Uncheck Use Base64 encoding for saved text in the Options
panel and then click the Save button Cannot Restore Hidden ClipperDipper Window in Linux: Data File Errors: NEVER ATTEMPT TO ACCESS THE CLIPPERDIPPER DATA FILE DIRECTLY. ATTEMPTING TO OPEN OR EDIT THIS FILE MANUALLY MAY DAMAGE IT, RESULTING IN THE LOSS OF SAVED DATA! If the data file is missing or damaged ClipperDipper will attempt to restore it using program defaults. If ClipperDipper is successful the program will restart and open the ClipperDipper window. If ClipperDipper cannot create a new data file or repair an existing one that has been damaged, data file error messages may keep repeating and ClipperDipper may not be able to start. If ClipperDipper is unable to repair a damaged data file it will be necessary to manually locate and delete the ClipperDipperData file and then re-start ClipperDipper. This method will almost always solve any data file errors, provided that ClipperDipper can write into the directory where it is located. Memory Problems: On systems with modest memory capcity it may be advisable to leave Auto Acquire set to "Off" or Item Format set to "Text" in order to prevent unnecessary items, particularly pictures, from being acquired automatically. These settings can be changed from the front panel as needed while ClipperDipper is running in order to change ClipperDipper behavior regarding the acquisition of clipboard items. If the list becomes too big, deleting individual items from the list also deletes them from memory (but not automatically from the data file). Copying Directly From Folders: Raw Application Data: Copying Pictures Embedded in Documents: Saved List Items: Each time the "Save List Items" button is pressed, it saves the current list items to the data file, overwriting any previously saved list items. If any previously saved items are deleted from the list, they will be removed from the data file the next time the "Save List Items" button is pressed. Previously saved items that are deleted from the list but still present in the data file can be restored to the list while ClipperDipper is running by selecting "Refresh" from the File Menu. Clicking the "Delete All" button will delete all list items, all saved items and clear the clipboard.
